Founded in 1974, the nonprofit Friends of the Harwich Council on Aging kicked off its 45th anniversary fund raising campaign on May 1.
The Friends’ goal is to raise $40,000 to continue its mission providing funding and support to Harwich seniors primarily in four areas: nutrition, socialization, transportation, emergency assistance and durable medical equipment.
Under the leadership of Jack Brown, the nonprofit relies on volunteers to operate its mini-bus for senior excursions to such venues as the National Seashore, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and Cape Cod Cultural Center. Friends also provided funding to supplement the purchase cost of an oven for the community center’s senior food programs and provided the Harwich Council on Aging food gift cards for those in need.
Friends relies on donors to sustain these services.
